Galapagos - Winter Term January 2023.
|
Dear Alumni and Friends,
DePauw is committed to developing leaders the world needs. Incorporating the opportunity to study off-campus, whether in the USA or abroad, is part of that commitment -- one that thousands of DePauw students have taken advantage of over the years, with an impact that lasts long after graduation.
|
“As the world becomes more globally interconnected, having students experience other geographic locations and cultures can really help them in not only their personal growth but also in career discernment. We always look to alumni to help us provide opportunities for students.”
-- Vice President for Academic Affairs Dave Berque - DePauw Magazine Spring 2019
|
For more than 50 years DePauw students have had the opportunity to extend their academic experience with winter programs both on and off-campus. In recent years, that has included not only an experiential element but also the opportunity to earn graduation credit. Thanks to the generosity of DePauw alumni and friends, many students have benefited from financial aid to access opportunities that might otherwise have been unobtainable. Students have had the opportunity to experience and become immersed in other cultures, engage in experiential and service learning or carry out research.
Over the years these programs have included activity such as:
• | Choral performances across Europe |
• | Winter Term in Service
• | Restoration projects |
• | Healthcare assistance in remote rural areas |
• | Public Health Education |
|
• | Studying
• | Biology in the Galápagos Islands |
• | Migration and relationships in Peru |
• | Technology in Japan |
• | Art, History and Politics In Italy |
• | Children’s Literature in London & Paris |
• | Tropical Ecology in Costa Rica |
• | Border Politics and Art in Texas |
• | Creative Problem Solving In Cairo, Egypt |
• | Geology in New Zealand |
• | Identity in France |
• | Wilderness Writing whilst paddling Florida's Everglades |
|
We hope you have fond memories from your own Winter Term experiences and thank all those who continue to support students through The Fund for DePauw and various off-campus study and student engagement funds.
Sincerely,
David Crout, Director of Off-Campus Programs
Heather Morris, Assistant Director of Off-Campus Programs and Risk Manager

Greek Community Board
For all interested alumni, we are looking for your help and hope you'll consider joining the DePauw University Greek Community Board (GCB). The GCB is a group of alumni advocates for the fraternity and sorority experience. The full board formally meets once each semester with the purpose of facilitating communication between the university and fraternity/sorority organizations and their respective volunteers. The GCB also collaborates with the university to ensure the fraternity/sorority community complements the academic experience and prepares student members in development of leadership and professional development skills. Our structure includes a six-member leadership team and a representative from each organization across four councils (National Pan-Hellenic Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Panhellenic Conference and Interfraternity Council), including active chapters as well as legacy chapters not currently active on campus.
Leadership team members serve two-year terms with nominations open each spring for three of the roles. This spring we will be seeking nominations for President, Vice President and Treasurer. The GCB leadership team meets virtually every other month, more or less as needed.
|
Please reply to DePauwGCBNomCom@gmail.com to nominate yourself or a fellow alumnus. Include in the email the nominee’s name, class year, chapter of affiliation and a brief statement as to why the individual would be a good candidate. Inquiries may also be sent to this address, as well as requests for detailed role descriptions for the available positions.
The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2023.
|
Additionally, all chapters welcome alumni volunteers to serve as advisors, house corp volunteers, GCB chapter representatives and mentors. The time commitment varies depending on the needs of each organization and the type of role, including project specific positions (short duration oriented). Re-engaging with your chapter of affiliation and/or the GCB will allow you to play a role in the continued and future success of DePauw and the fraternity/sorority community.
