Tour DePauw gears up for Little 5, Eclipse on campus, and more...
##SENDGRIDOPENTRACKING##

Dear Alumni and Friends,

I am thrilled to reconnect with you as the Director of Annual Giving Programs, returning to our alma mater after graduating in 2017. DePauw holds a special place in my heart, not only for the education it provided but also for the lifelong memories it cultivated. It was here that I met my husband, Craig, and together we cherish our shared

experiences as Walker Cup winners. Our son Augustine has become a part of our DePauw journey, joining us in celebrating the traditions that make this place feel like home.

Among these cherished traditions, Little 5 stands out as a time of unity and celebration. Whether I spent them barbecuing in the rain at AAAS or slinging GCBs in the sun at the GCPA, I took pride in our community coming together and reveling in the spirit of camaraderie. This year, I am excited to extend an invitation to all alumni to participate in Tour DePauw, a unique blend of biking, social media engagement, and fundraising competition. Starting on April 6 and culminating in the annual Little 5 bicycle race on April 20, Tour DePauw promises to reignite the spirit of our beloved tradition.

As alumni, your participation in Tour DePauw not only strengthens our bonds but also supports the ongoing success of our university. Together, let us ride, give, and share our passion online, propelling our respective decades towards victory while upholding the legacy of DePauw.

Join me in keeping our traditions alive and thriving!

With Tiger Pride,

Tanner Jackson '24 Pursues Physics and Football

Tanner Jackson is a senior in the Class of 2024 and a physics major with minors in Japanese language and media studies. He is also a Science Research Fellow, a Media Fellow and a member of the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

“During my time at DePauw, I’ve spent many hours as the Music Director for WGRE, playing football, hurdling at track and field, as well as a few other clubs. I’ve been both a director and a DJ at WGRE for five of my semesters at

DePauw thus far. I enjoy working in student media a lot and my favorite part is getting to work with the other directors on WGRE’s board, Professor Jeff McCall and Chris Newton,” he says. “After I graduate, I plan on attending graduate school to receive a Ph.D. in theoretical physics with the goal of becoming a professor and collaborating on research at the international level.”

Originally planning to major in kinesiology, Jackson changed his major to physics after some reading on his own between his freshman and sophomore years. “Most physicists love Einstein, but for me learning about his Theories of Relativity hooked me. You’re dealing with things at the speed of light and get really strange consequences like time dilation and objects contracting in size based on how fast they’re moving with respect to the speed of light,” he said.

This renaissance man not only studies science, communications and Japanese language, but also excels in athletics. “Football is all about putting the team before yourself,” Jackson says. “I think that’s pretty applicable across life, making sacrifices to ensure that your family is taken care of and successful, as well as in a business or organization.”

He adds, “In track, it’s similar but has more to do with the practice of mentoring. I didn’t know if I was going to get to run track in college, but my First-Year Mentor put me in contact with the track coach and I was able to join the team. I’ve had some amazing mentors in my track coaches over the years, as well as in the seniors who have since graduated.”

“Now as a senior, I’ve seen myself transition into the mentor role and how my attitude towards practice and towards the team can be absorbed by the younger athletes around me. We have built up a really good culture. Everybody loves coming to practice and is all in for the team. It’s been really cool to see that transformation during my time here.” Jackson is a beneficiary of the Gertrude and G.D. Crain Award, the William Darroch Scholarship and the Stringfellow Endowed DePauw Trust Scholarship. To the scholarship and other donors who have supported his experience, Tanner says, “Thank you for your dedication to DePauw and its students. I am incredibly grateful."

"Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold."
